Volkswagen has released a new design sketch of the upcoming sedan model, currently known as NMS (New Midsize Sedan), which could replace the Passat and go on sale in the US market as a 2012 model.
The new official design sketch follows the first one which was unveiled back in February 2009 and shows less squared-shapes and the VW’s familiar front end with the horizontal grille. The cabin is expected to be larger than in the current Passat.
The new model, targeted to the US market, will be built in about 100,000 units per year at VW’s new Chattanooga, Tenn. plant from spring 2011 and will be launched as a 2012 model.
